Hot off of the Telegraph

Welcome Cowboys and Cowgirls! As your Territorial Governor (TG) for the Black River Regulators, it is my duty and pleasure to keep everyone informed of what is happening at the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS). If you have any concerns, issues, proposed rule or category changes with regards to Cowboy Action Shooting, please let me know.

I was present at the 2009 SASS Convention and TG Summit for 2009. Below are the voting results. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. It is indeed a pleasure representing you and having a part in voicing your opinion on issues before us. The rule is two-thirds majority present to pass any new agenda item. Remember if there is a question or idea to make our game better, contact me and I'll try to get it on the next agenda.

The new 2010 Shooter's Handbook is out. There are a few changes in the handbook, and these changes are highlighted in yellow. Please read these changes carefully. Click here for the handbook.

Some recent changes and clarifications:

  • The Burgess Rifle is SASS legal now. It was patented in 1882. The rule is changed on B-Western to allow the earliest rifle to be from 1880 instead of present 1884.
  • The following clarifications have been approved by the RO Committee in keeping with the original INTENT of the rule(s) regarding the wearing of shotgun ammo slides. Belt slide ammo loops are acceptable; however, shotgun shell slides may not be worn over shotgun loops on an ammo belt, SHB p.11. Shotgun slides may not be worn over shotgun loops on an ammo belt, SHB p.25. Illegal items: Wearing a shotgun slide over shotgun loops on an ammo belt, ROI p.27. This clarification allows shotgun slides on the flat portion of ANY belt and shotgun slides over rifle/pistol loops on ANY belt.
  • Sights all firearms - Sights must look like sights available during the cowboy era—bead, blade, simple post, or otherwise approved front sights (such as the XS Cowboy Express) made of materials such as steel, iron, ivory, faux ivory, brass, gold, pewter, copper, or silver are allowed. Colors other than those of the materials referenced above or any “fluorescent” materials may not be applied to either front or rear sights. Rear and front sights may also be “blacked," painted, or plated in the colors of the previously listed materials. If blacking, paint, or plating is applied to a revolver front sight, it must cover the entire rear surface of the sight to give the appearance of a solid material. This is a clarification to the SHB "Firearms Covenants" (page 5).
